At first glance, Group H might not look like the strongest group, yet it has the potential to be among the most exciting of the World Cup.
Senegal, Poland and Colombia will all be looking to reach the next stages of the competition, while Japan could make a surprise challenge for a spot in the knockout stages.
Japan have compiled one of the oldest squads they have ever sent to the World Cup, with an average age of 28.
Their coach, Akira Nishino, will be putting his faith in experience to help guide the team past a tumultuous run up to the competition.
Shinji Kagawa, Keisuke Honda and Shinji Okazaki might provide the attacking spark that, together with a solid looking defence, could see them progress to the next round.
Having said that, Japan should still be regarded as underdogs in this group.
Senegal share a similar fate, playing only in their second ever World Cup.
The African team boasts the likes of Sadio Mane and Kalidou Koulibaly although their overall lack of global experience and a shaky midfield might cost them a place in the next round.
They are worth keeping an eye on though because any team with the attacking prowess possessed in Sadio Mane is bound to score goals against shaky defensive opposition.
Here Poland are the guilty party. The team conceded more goals than any other group winner, yet were among the high scorers, averaging at least three goals a game.
While this is due to all time leading Polish goal scorer Robert Lewandowski, he has struggled to keep his prolific form on the world’s biggest stage, having scored only two goals in the eight matches he played in the 2012 and 2016 World Cups combined.
In Group H however, Lewandowski will face opposition that could allow him to overcome his drought and propel Poland into the Round of 16.
The other favourites to progress to the last 16 are Colombia, whose solid defence and pace on the counter will trouble their opposition.
They will have to overcome a severe drought in goals however, having scored only 18 goals in their last 21 games.
Key to this will be James Rodríguez, who has been revitalised at Bayern Munich. Colombia will play Poland on the 24th June at 20:00 for the pick of the group action.
Their following match, on the 28th of June at 16:00, against Senegal could also be an interesting one.
Watch out for pacey football, class and flair in all the Group H matchups.
