In the first Quarter finals of the 2018 World Cup, France managed to overcome a previously unbeaten Uruguay 2-0 to secure their place in the Semi Finals thanks to goals from Griezeman and Varane. The game had the promise to be an exciting start to the Quarter Finals, with France also being unbeaten thus far.

Unfortunately for the Uruguayans, France came out of the tunnel looking to put the game to bed from the first minute, yet the Uruguayan defence stood strong up until the 40th minute, when Antione Griezeman put in a precise cross that was finished by Raphael Varane.
Uruguay had a few chances in the first half, yet none seemed to be threatening to French keeper Hugo Lloris.
Mbappe, Pogba and Griezeman always seemed to be threatening the Uruguayan defence, and it was the Atletico superstar who gifted the French their second goal with the help of the unfortunate Muslera.
The Uruguayan goalkeeper will no doubt have something to say about the Telstar ball, after the flight of the ball of Griezemans shot caused Muslera to misjudge the ball and concede through a weak save.
Although the South Americans tried to launch a counter offensive to try and bring back the game, Ngolo Kante and Paul Pogba had the French defence more than covered.

The French never seemed to be troubled in the game, while Uruguay almost failed to get started. Even the three substitutes, Rodriguez, Gonzalez and Urretaviscaya were not able to impact the game, with the first becoming emotional at the prospect of being eliminated before the game had concluded.France will be looking to keep their momentum going into the Semi Finals where they will face either Brazil or Belgium.
Uruguay on the other hand will be disappointed that they will not be reaching another Semi Final, after promising campaigns in 2010 and 2014.
