Media blowing everything out of proportion – again.
Anthony Martial left United’s preseason early to be with his wife for the birth of his second child and is not expected to return to America to rejoin the team. Now Mourinho was told about this “two to three days ago”. Yet, the media has blown this out of proportion in order to sell some papers by saying that he left without Mourinho’s approval and that Mourinho wants him out of Manchester United for it. Garbage. It’s like the media want to see Martial fail so that
While Mourinho might not have approved of him leaving, especially when the squad is short on forwards, I hardly think he is suddenly going to hate Martial for wanting to be with his girlfriend for the birth of their child. By all reports and comments Mourinho would like to keep Martial and the club definitely would drag their feet in letting him go. But with no guarantee of a starting position and a style of play that is restricting you can see why Martial is pushing for a move.
Will he go or will he stay?
Martial could become a world class player, he has shown glimpses of brilliance and we all know how dangerous he can be to any defense when he is in the mood. But there is still a question on his work rate when it comes to defending. Mourinho demands his players work hard in defense and this is not Martial’s strong point. So will he leave?
Well by the sounds of it, only if United was to be offered more than £50-60 million from a club outside England. With such a fee you can understand why clubs are reluctant to go in for him, while there is undoubted potential he is not the finished product and with that sort of fee you expect to be buying the real deal, not the player he could be in two years. But such is the market these days that those are the sort of figures you have to pay if you want a player that looks like he is going to be half decent.
Stay or go this will be a big season for Martial and he will want to make the right impression where ever he goes, nail down that starting place and show the world what he can do. Will Mourinho allow him to go or allow him to stay and play wit the freedom he desires and needs? Time will tell…
But if you wanted my honest gut feeling? I think if an offer of £40-50 million comes in you will see Martial leave no matter if the club is in England or not. I could even see a swap deal with Chelsea for Willian.
