South Africa 135 for 2 in 28 overs (Aiden Markram 67*, Rassie van der Dussen 28*) beat Sri Lanka 225 (Kusal Mendis 56, Kagiso Rabada 3-50, Anrich Nortje 3-35, Imran Tahir 2-33) by 41 runs (DLS method)
Lasith Malinga won the toss at Newlands and elected to bat first. As in the previous four ODI’s, Sri Lanka lost the opening pair within the first four overs courtesy of Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada.
Angelo Perera and Kusal Mendis looked to revive the Sri Lankan innings with the latter getting to his 14th ODI half-century.
The partnership was broken when Tahir hurried Mendis with a slider edged to Faf du Plessis in the slips for 31.
Runs were drying out with the run-rate at less than four runs an over. A mix up between Mendis and Priyamal Perera put South Africa in the commanding seat, Mendis run out by Ngidi for 56.
Nortje and Rabada struck regularly despite a late surge from Isuru Udana which led Sri Lanka to 225 all out in 49.3 overs.
South Africa lost the inform Quinton de Kock early, caught deep square leg off the bowling of Malinga.
The Sri Lankans bowled tight lines and kept the run rate low although the fielding was poor, dropping Markram twice on two and 15.
Faf du Plessis did not share the same luck, caught behind off the bowling of Thisara Perera. Markram and van der Dussen put up a 57 run partnership before the umpires suspended play when one set of floodlights failed.
The teams went off the ground for 90 minutes with the crowd hoping for play to be resumed but with the situation not having improved play was called off.
