The Lions have announced their 26-man squad for their tour of Australasia which begins with a clash against the Brumbies on Saturday.
The tour follows a 42-5 thumping at the hands of the Sharks. Coach Swys de Bruin publicly expressed concern with the leadership group from top to bottom including himself.
Nevertheless Malcolm Marx retains the captaincy in the absence of charismatic leader Warren Whiteley, whose composure and leadership is clearly missed.
The electric Kwagga Smith makes a timely return from injury. Smith’s return from injury comes quicker than expected much to the delight of de Bruin who will be hoping for a big impact from the former sevens player.
The Johannesburg-based team will face an uphill battle on their tour facing New Zealand opposition in three of four matches.
