On Friday Cricket South Africa named 28 players outside the nationally contracted players to prepare them for potential national selection in the 2019/20 international season.
The squad consists of a mixture of veterans including Jon-Jon Smuts, Khaya Zondo, Sarel Erwee and youngsters who have impressed domestically including Wiaan Mulder, Sinethemba Qeshile, Kyle Verreynne, and Janneman Malan.
In a statement from CSA Head of Cricket Pathways, “The purpose of this squad, under the direction of SA A Head Coach, Russell Domingo and SA A Strength and Conditioning specialist, Tumi Masekela, with the assistance of the Franchise coaches, is to ensure that these players are properly prepared and optimally conditioned for international cricket. It is also important to let them know that they are on the radar of the National Selection Panel (NSP) for possible selection to the Proteas and SA A.”
The international season resumes for South Africa after the ICC World Cup with SA A tour to India in August, Proteas tour to India in October and an inbound tour of England in December.
