Fiji won the HSBC World Series on Sunday as they claimed the Paris 7s title by beating New Zealand in the Cup final 35-24 to be crowned World Champions once again.
The last time Fiji won the series was the 2015/16 season before South Africa did back to back title wins in the following years.
Fiji won five of the 10 tournaments as well as one silver and bronze medal as they did well to keep the USA at bay.
The USA 7’s have been electric all season and made all of the first five final with their only tournament win coming in las vegas in front of their home crowd.
New Zealand came third whilst South Africa also sealed a place in the Olympic games next year with a fourth-place finish.
The series was largely dominated by those four sides with the next best-placed team England who finished the season 34 points adrift from the top four.
The biggest news of the series was the qualification of Ireland for the World Series next year which will mean that Ireland will become a mainstay in the major tournaments despite having been missing in recent times.
The next world series will kick off again in December in Cape Town and will provide a vital build up towards Tokyo 2020 with the five teams already having qualified being Japan, Fiji, New Zealand, USA and South Africa.
