Tuttosport is reporting that Massimiliano Allegri is ‘very close’ to agreeing a deal to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United’s manager. They say that United’s hierarchy are ready to act and are closing in on the appointment of former Juventus boss Allegri in a deal that could be worth £6.5m a year.
Other Italian papers go on to say that Allegri wants to bring former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can and Croatian striker, Mario Mandzukic, with him as he plans an overhaul at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has endured a nightmare start to the season with results not going his teams way coupled with a raft of injuries on top of selling some of United’s biggest names and failing to replace them rather entrusting in youth players to make the step up.
Reports also state that Allegri would want Patrice Evra to join him on his backroom staff if appointed. As a United legend Evra, who five Premier League titles and one Champions League, could prove a hugely popular decision among fans. Evra himself has often expressed his desire to return to Old Trafford to help the club back to the glory days after losing their dominant title within England. Evra has been completing his coaching badges at United currently and is already a popular figure with the current United players.
Manchester United reportedly see Allegri as an ideal replacement due to him currently being out of a job after stepping down as Juventus boss at the end of last season together with his impressive results with the Italian giants over the last few years.
Manchester United face Liverpool this weekend with Pogba, De Gea, Shaw, Martial, Lingard and several other players are serious doubts due to injury. A big loss to United’s bitter rivals could be the final straw for Solskjaer’s United reign.
