Several media sources claim that private discussions over an exit strategy have taken place that could see Mauricio Pochettino leave Spurs before the January transfer window.
It appears to be a matter of when and not if Pochettino will leave Tottenham Hotspurs. Spurs are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League and are a massive 20 points adrift of leaders Liverpool. Although the Champions League finalists are on course to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The feeling around club is that while Saturday’s derby against West Ham United may not be make-or-break for Pochettino, it will play a major part in determining his future, particularly as Spurs have not won away in the league since January.
Pochettino currently has more than three years to run on his £8.5million contract. A major factor given he will be entitled to a huge cash settlement if he is sacked.
Several names have been thrown around as potential replacements with Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann or Carlo Ancelotti, who have respective jobs at Bournemouth, RB Leipzig and Napoli being the front runners for the job.
All will come at a cost to buy them out their current contracts and coupled together with having to Pochettino out of his current contract could prove to a be costly process, one Spurs will be looking to avoid especially if they don’t get Champions League football and the revenue that comes with that next season.
It only seems to be a matter of time before Pochettino will be gone and it would be sad to see that despite all the hard work done on such a tight budget that there would be no silverware to show for all the progress Spurs have made over recent seasons.
