England’s premier fast bowler, James Anderson, has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series between South Africa and England.
Anderson, who is England’s all-time leading wicket-taker, sustained a rib injury during the second Test at Newlands which prevented him from bowling in much of South Africa’s second innings.
The seamer underwent MRI scans on Wednesday and was consequently ruled out of the rest of the series which moves to Port Elizabeth for the third Test before finishing at the Wanderer’s in Johannesburg.
England will carry a lot of momentum with them to St George’s Park after leveling the series with a dominant performance thanks to the heroics of Ben Stokes.
Craig Overton has joined the team meanwhile, although it is likely that Jofra Archer will be fit and ready to go after an elbow injury kept him out of action at Newlands.
