The dynamic winger, Adama Traore has been put forward by Wolves supporters as their club’s player of the season.
You can understand why, Traore has a staggering 144 successful dribbles this season, more than any other player in the league.
The race for top four was tightening up with only a five-point lead separating fourth-placed, Chelsea and seventh place, Sheffield United. Wolverhampton Wanderers were a team in fine form, coming off the back of 3 draws and 2 wins. Their last win came against a burnt-out Tottenham side. Wolves clawed their way back from 2-1 down to earn all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Traore is a player that has earned his place in the Wolves starting 11. The former Middlesbrough player received harsh criticism during his first season at the Molineux. However, in typical Traore form, his second season with Wolves has shown his true quality and potential. Traore is winning all the hearts of Wolves fans in his first season as a regular first-team starter.
The 24-year-old is not only having his most successful season with six goals and 10 assists across all competitions. He is also playing some incredible football; linking play up well, putting in pinpoint crosses as well as executing some blistering runs down the flanks. The Spaniard has racked up goals against top sides such as Tottenham and Manchester City.
Over the Christmas period, Traore scored and assisted in the 3-2 win against the current champions, proving that he can perform against the top six sides.
The link-up between Traore and Raul Jimenez has proved vital to Wolves’ success. The players have combined for a record eight goals in the Premier League this season. There was a feeling that Wolves could have caused an upset when log leaders Liverpool visited the Molineux towards the end of January. It was a tight affair, with Jimenez and Traore causing all kinds of trouble for the Liverpool defence. Liverpool found a way, as champions often do, however, Wolves relentlessly took the fight to Liverpool. The Reds finally scored in the final ten minutes of the game to win it 2-1. Jurgen Klopp after the game commented that Traore was simply “unplayable”. High praise from a man that is running away with the league at the moment.

Other top teams have taken notice of the pacey winger and adjusted their game plans accordingly. Manchester United had a tactical plan to deal with Traore when the two sides met in the FA Cup third-round replay. The Wolves wide man started the game on the left but switched to his favoured right side in the first half. Almost immediately, United speedster Daniel James switched sides to counter Traore’s pace.
Naturally, this impressive spell before a transfer window has put a high price tag on the winger reportedly around £70 million. The likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid have expressed their interest in the player.
There is no doubt that Traore has started to show the ability that Barcelona saw glimpses of while a youth player at the Catalan giants, the trick will be for him to mantain his consistency and prove he can do it at the highest level and in the big pressure situations.
