Real Madrid face the tricky task of deciding whether to stick with Luca Modric next season or recall youngster Martin Odegaard.
Odegaard has been in fine form for Real Sociedad this season while on loan and has finally begun to show why Real Madrid have invested so much in the Norwegian prodigy.
Odegaard joined Los Blancos at just 16 years old and was already seen as the next Real Madrid midfield legend having made his international debut at just 15.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan for him with too much pressure being placed on someone of his age which included an £80,000 a week contract at 16-years-old and he has made just two senior appearances for Real Madrid.
Instead, the midfielder finds himself in his third loan stint although it has already proven to be a defining one.
Since joining Real Sociedad, Odegaard has found the net seven times in 28 appearances whilst providing eight assists as well. He has clearly shown that he has what it takes to play in the LaLiga and while the deal has the option of extending the loan for an additional year, Zinedine Zidane now has the option of possibly recalling the youngster.
Luca Modric has struggled to find the form he showed when he won the coveted Ballon d’Or and at 35-years-old in September is coming to the end of his playing career.
It could, therefore, be an option for Zidane to move Modric off of their books and instead look at giving Odegaard a place in the 1st team squad although the continued pursuit of Manchester United’s Paul Pogba could also come into play.
Regardless of what happens, Odegaard looks to be finding himself in top flite football and the excitement that surrounded him as a teenager is finally starting to return.
