Chelsea are set to extend Olivier Giroud’s contract until the end of 2021 in order to prevent him from leaving as a free agent in the summer.
The 33-year-olds contract will come to an end on 30 June unless the Blues take up the option to extend by a year which they are likely to do.
Giroud was linked with a move to Inter Milan in January before Chelsea blocked it owing to the fact that they could not land a replacement at the time.
Inter are said to still be keen on the French forward with Antonio Conte keen on relinking up with the player he brought to Stamford Bridge.
Giroud has found the net on just two occasions in nine appearances without registering any assists. Hakim Ziyech will be arriving at the Bridge in the summer while Chelsea are also linked with a move for Jadon Sancho and Philipe Coutinho.
