Football in France has officially come to an end for the season after the Fench government rule that ‘big sporting affairs cannot occur before September’, bringing an end to the Ligue 1 and 2 seasons.
While the season coming to an end has been confirmed, no announcement has been made by the footballing bodies to confirm whether or not the competitions have been declared null and void or whether Ligue de Football Professional (LFP) will choose the champions as well as decide promotion and relegation based on current standings.
PSG currently lead the Ligue 1 standings with a 12 point gap between them and second-placed Marseille with PSG still having a game in hand.
Nimes, Amiens and Toulouse find themselves in the relegation zone and would be demoted to Ligue 2 next season if the current standings are taken as final.
Meanwhile, PSG president Al-Khelaifi has confirmed that the club will do anything they can to ensure they can continue their Champions League campaign which could mean the club might have to play their home games at a venue outside of France.
