Exactly what all Wolves fans were wishing for when the big kick-off restarted. On looking at the first three fixtures Wolves needed maximum points for any aspirations of finishing in the top four and a champions league place.
And with teams around us dropping points Saturdays win was vital, the target before the restart would have been overtaking Chelsea in fourth, Leicester in third is now a possibility.
As for Saturday’s game Wolves did all they needed for the three points a solitary goal and a clean sheet. Wolves were never troubled by a very poor Aston Villa team. You felt should Aston Villa actually have bothered to raise their game, Wolves had several more gears to step up too.
That solitary goal finally arrived in the 62nd minute, coincidentally shortly after the arrival of Adama Traore. He won the ball in the middle of the park fended of a couple of tackles by the opposition players then passed a lovely ball out to Jiminez out on the wing, he, in turn, delivered a beautiful cross to the edge of the Villa penalty area. It arrived at the feet of Jonny who managed to pass it to Dendonker who took one touch and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the bottom of the net, job done.
Dendonker was rightly awarded man of the match, his work rate all over the pitch was a joy to watch, which meant Wolves weren’t troubled by the so-called threat…. Jack Grealish. Jonny was also a stand out player for Wolves with his defensive duties and his forward play which included his assist for the goal.
On to Grealish, are Manchester United really going to waste 80 million pounds on a player who can’t stand up let alone play football, if this is the asking price, how much is Neves worth, a far better player who doesn’t disappear when the chips are down?
Even before a ball had been kicked, Dean Smith was bleating on about having to play four games in eleven days, he continued his winging after the defeat not giving Wolves any credit or just admitting his team isn’t good enough. Next on the agenda is Arsenal at Molineux, there was a time I’d be worried about this fixture but not anymore.
